Why Kids Need School Lunch Notes

Lunchbox Lovables: Parents have amazing powers when it comes to the connection their children feel with a simple note.

Why you should send lunch notes with your children when they go back to school.

When I used to tuck my son into bed, we would say “I love you!” Soon, I received “How much do you love me?”  “To the moon and back” seemed too generic to me. So, we created “I love you to the moon and stars and fireworks and back, around the world on a motorcycle, to the aurora borealis, and back on Grandpa’s tractor.” I know, it’s a mouthful!!!  BUT- hear me on this- it’s THE MOST meaningful words to my son that can be said to this day! Five years later it still brings a smile to his face.

“The influence of my words made a lasting impression for the cherished connection with my son.” - Rachel Davis

Our words as parents have an IMMENSE impact on our children. Let the most important part, OUR WORDS, soak in for a minute. Conversing with our children is a vital role of a parent to grow our children into mature adults. When kids start school, conversations become harder, and a distance sets in. You're tired from a long day at work, they are tired from a long day at school, and you are often rushing off to dinner, sports, extra curriculars, etc. But, where is the connection lost with our children in the hectic mix? This surely shouldn’t be your last thought– you are raising a child after all!

Well, there is a solution! Begin by asking a specific conversation starter like, “What did you think about the card in your lunch?”. Lunchbox Lovables was designed to cultivate conversations with parents and their kids. Too often the classic question “How was your day?” is met with a quick answer: “good” “fine” “I don’t want to talk about it” or “I’m tired”. It’s too general. As a parent, you have the power to break the cycle of lack-luster conversations with your kids. Let’s produce conversations that prod questions, encourage, build up, and provide wisdom and laughter in our children!

Research from the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education shows that “no matter their income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior and adapt well in school.”

Lunch box notes are a great way to speak to your child during their long day at school. Plus, who doesn’t want to know someone they love is thinking about them while they are away? With a mix of inspiration, entertainment, and questions (naming only a few benefits), a Lunchbox Lovables Book provides a wide mix of easy-tear-off cards so they don’t become mundane or boring. To help encourage conversation and foster deeper connections, Lunchbox Lovables books also include a parent’s section. The parent’s corner is filled with fun activities, reminders, questions to ask your children and your spouse to grow together as a family instead of apart.

According to experts, there is no limit to what a child can achieve with the right amount of guidance and support. Prioritize parental connection and use tools like school notes to enhance your child’s mental health, boost self-esteem and influence greater academic comprehension. A recent study by The Harvard Family Research Project concluded, parental involvement is directly associated with a higher level of student achievement. Student success was found to be higher in a variety of areas including standardized test scores, grades and teacher ratings in children with involved parents from a young age.

Even in my thirties, I still remember the cheesy, encouraging, and heartfelt sticky notes my parents put in my lunch as a kid..
